BIRTH PLACE

Om Vishnupad Paramhansa 108 Paramaraddhyatam Srila Bhakti Dayit Madhav Goswami Maharaj was born on 18 November 1904 in the village of Kanchan-para under district of Faridpur on the day of Utthan Ekadasi in East Bengal (now known as Bangladesh).

His father Sree Nishikant Devsharma Banerjee and mother Sreemati Shaivalini Devi gave the name to their child as Heramb Kumar Banerjee.

Village Kanchan Para is situated on the bank of Padma river in the Thana of Bhedar. This is the same river where Lord Gauranga placed prema for Narottam Thakur.
 
 

CHILDHOOD

Heramb Kumar Banerjee was a unique child with attributes. His maternal uncle Yasoda Nandan was a rich person. At the age of 4 years child�s father left the world. Mother Shaivalini Devi took child to her brother�s house. There child was brought up.

Child never spoke a lie. He used to ask his friends to speak the truth.
 
 

GITA BY HEART

At the age of 11 years Heramb Kumar Banerjee got complete Geeta by heart with help of his mother who was a devotee of Lord Krishna. Mother Shaivalini Devi caused the child to study Srimad Bhagavad-Gita, Ramayana, Mahabharata, etc.
 
 

BLESSINGS OF NARADA MUNI

Heramb Kumar Banerjee saw a dream wherein Narada Muni appeared and gave mantra. Guru Maharajjee got mantra but when he awoke he forgot that mantra. Even after refreshing his memory he could not remember.
 
 

LEFT THE HOUSE AND WENT TO HARIDWAR

After getting mantra in his dream from Narada Muni, Heramb Kumar Banerjee realised that human life in meant only for Hari bhajan. He took permission of his mother while she was residing in Durgapur. He came to Haridwar alone to have divine darshan of Lord Krishna. He wondered hither and thither in the forest on the mountains and remained for three days and nights without meal and sleep. Then he heard akashbani (sound from ether): �Where you were earlier your divine master has taken birth. You go back to your own place where you will get your divine master.�

Hearing akashbani he came down to Haridwar from mountain site. He decided to stay for some time in Haridwar.

Here in Haridwar B.D. Madhav Maharaj met a saint and told him about akashbani. Saint advised him to go back to his own house.
 
 

MEETING WITH RICH MAN SETHA

He decided to pass some days in pure place of Haridwar. One setha and sethani (rich husband and wife) came to have holy bath and divine darshana of tirtha of Haridwar. They met Heramb Kumar Banerjee and loved him. They requested him to become adopted son as they were without a child. He thought that �I have come leaving my house. Again illusion has come to entice me.� He refused. Yet he went to their house and there he saw huge movable and immovable property but refused to accept.
 
 

BACK TO CALCUTTA

Enticement could not attract him. He came back to Calcutta in the year of 1925 at the age of 21 years.
 
 

MEETING WITH SRILA BHAKTISIDDHANTA SARASWATI THAKUR

Founder President of International Sree Chaitanya Math, Gaudiya Math, Gaudiya Mission Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur took sannyas in 1918 and established Chaitanya Math in Sri Mayapur and in Calcutta No.1 Ulta Danga Junction Road, a Sree Bhakti Vinod Ashram.

In 1925 Heramb Kumar Banerjee along with his friends came to have darshana of Sree Dham Mayapur in birth place of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

He came to Mayapur at noon when Prabhupada gave Hari Nama and initiation to Dr.S.N. Ghosh and his wife. He went to meet Prabhupada in his bhajan kutir and heard Hari katha, importance of human life and Nama sankirtan.

Prabhupada asked: �How did you come?�
Gurujee replied: We heard about Sree Dhama Mayapur and dieties, so came to have darshan.
Srila Prabhupada: �Did you ever saw darshana of Sree Vigraha earlier?�
Heramb Kumar: Till now I have seen many Sri Vigraha.
Srila Prabhupada: Wanted to know any benefit from darshana of Sri Vigraha?
Heramb Kumar: I do not know whether there is benefit or not. One should have darshan so I did.

Heramb Kumar was attracted towards the words of Prabhupada. On inquiry he came to know that he came Prabhupada in Calcutta at Ulta Danga Junction.
 
 

HARI NAMA AND INITIATION

Heramb Kumar took Hari Nama and initiation from Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur on 4 September 1927 at Ulta Danga Gaudiya Math on the auspicious day of Radhasthami.

After initiation Srila Prabhupada titled him as Hayagriv Das Brahmachary, since then he was known by this name.
 
 

RELATIVES BECAME DISPLEASED

After Hari Nama and initiation, his relatives were not satisfied. There is no castism in Gaudiya Math. Everybody can take initiation belonging any caste, religion, faith, creed and color.

He started daily to go to Math at Calcutta No.1 Ulta Danga to hear Hari Katha and also started serving Vaishnavas honestly and sincerely.
 
 

VOLCANIC ENERGY

On getting Hari Nama and initiation after sometimes he joined Math. He got full success in all works entrusted to him by Srila Prabhupada. Having seen his ability, Prabhupada used to say, �You have volcanic energy.�

After joining Math in 1928 he rendered various serviced till 1936 during the lifetime of Srila Prabhupada.
 
 

ESTABLISHMENT OF SREE CHAITANYA GAUDIYA MATH

Even after disappearance of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta he served Sree Gaudiya until 1945. He maintained very good relation with his senior and junior Godbrothers. He defeated a well-known scholar named Panchanan Tarkratna. On 4 October 1936 he stated his own mission known as Sree Chaitanya Gaudiya Math. First branch was established in Terpur (Assam) on 23 January 1950.
 
 

ACCEPTANCE OF TRIDAND SANNYAS

As a brahmachary he conducted very influencive prachar in Assam, West Bengal and Bangladesh. Srila Prabhupada had a desire to give him sannyas, but being engaged in service (collection of donation) he could not give.

Srila Prabhupada disappeared on 1 January 1937. After the disappearance of His Divine Master he was persuaded to take sannyas. Hence Hayagriv Das Brahmachary took tridand sannyasa from his Godbrother Paribrajakacharya Tridandi Swami Srila Bhakti Gaurav Bakhanas Maharaj on the day of Falguni Purnima (Appearance day of Lord Gauranga) in 1944 at the age of 40 years.

After sannyasa he is known as Tridandi Swami Bhakti Dayit Madhav Maharaj.

He established twenty Maths all over India. Main Maths are in Tezpur (Gwanat), Gwalpara, Sobhog (all in Assam), Hyderabad (A.P.), Dehradoon (U.P.), Sree Dham Mayapur, Calcutta (W.B.), Chandigarh, New Delhi.

He blessed 21 persons with tridand sannyas from 1965 to 1977.

Srila Bhakti Dayit Madhav Maharaj got his institution registered in the name �Sree Chaintaya Gaudiya Math�.

He disappeared on 27 February 1979.

He was succeeded by his beloved disciple Tridandi Swami B.B. Tirtha Maharaj.
